ADHD Coaching: Mastering Executive Function & Academic Success
The Evolution of the ADHD Brain

In the mid-20th century, ADHD was often misunderstood as a temporary childhood issue linked to brain injury or damage. However, research from the late 1980s through to the early 2000s has proven that it is actually a lifelong neurological disorder.
It involves specific areas of the brain—the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, amygdala, cerebellum, and corpus callosum. Together, these areas form the “management system” of the brain, responsible for executive functions such as time management, prioritisation, attention, and planning skills. When this system works differently, tasks that seem like “second nature” to others can become significant hurdles in personal, professional, and social lives to those with ADHD.
Our Approach: From “Lazy” to “Different”
ADHD is not a lack of willpower or laziness; it is a different way of processing the world. Whether this presents as “brain fog” or consistent inner restlessness, coaching helps you identify and understand your specific subtype to build a life that works with your brain, not against it:
- Inattentive Subtype: Focus on overcoming the inability to maintain focus for prolonged periods of time.
- Hyperactive/Impulsive Subtype: Tools to manage the inability to keep still or the tendency to make split-second choices without thought.
- Combined Subtype: A tailored strategy addressing a combination of both hyperactive and inattentive traits.
Why Our ADHD Coaching is Unique
Lived Experience Meets Practical Insight
Our coaching is not presented as a course or taught through a textbook; it is led by a professional with a personal ADHD diagnosis. This lived experience provides a level of empathy and practical, “in-the-trenches” insight that allows us to connect with students and adults on a deeper level. We do not just understand the science; we understand the daily reality.
Thriving Without Medication
Learning how to thrive without the use of medications is essential to our coaching mindset. While coaching is not a substitute for therapy and we cannot provide prescriptions, we focus on mental reframing and the skills necessary for your present and future:
- Dopamine-Based Systems: For students, we move away from simple “external motivation” and focus on what actually triggers engagement and excitement in an ADHD brain—addressing the key issue of “how much dopamine is this activity going to give me?”
- Mental Reframing: We aim to shift the mindset from “I am lazy” or “I am broken” to “My brain works differently, and this means I need different tools.”
- Unique Coping Mechanisms: We work closely with you to discover the specific organisational and focus systems that work for your unique learning type.
What ADHD Looks Like on the Outside
From the outside, common stereotypes suggest that people with ADHD are simply lazy, cannot listen, or are disruptive. In actual fact:
- “Laziness” is often executive dysfunction (the difficulty of starting tasks).
- “Not listening” is often hyperfocus or issues with working memory.
- “Disruptive behaviour” is often dopamine-seeking behaviour.
